Pyrgos
A traditional hillside settlement
Situated just 5km from Santorini’s capital, Fira, the village of Pyrgos can be found at the highest point of Santorini, with panoramic views of the whole island all the way to the village of Oia.
It is composed of traditional houses built and the small streets follow the shape of the hill around the Venetian Castle, which is one of the five on the island of Santorini and dates back to the 13th century. The houses are the perfect example of Cycladic design and in superb condition. Near the village of Pyrgos and crowning Mount Profitis IIias lies a monastery dedicated to the prophet Elias. On the grounds of the monastery, one can visit a beautiful small museum, presenting a mesmerizing exhibition into Santorini’s past.
